before we start here are 2 answers to 2 questions you might ask:
1)Question: is your blog hosted at servage?
Answer: yes, my blog is hosted at servage and my other websites aswell.
2)Question: Aren’t you afraid that someone from the staff from servage will see this blog post?
Answer: I don’t care if they see it or not, what i;m writing here is true and 100% legit.
What happened that you got pissed off so hard?
I signed up at servage hosting in july when i got tired of the lots and lots of downtimes of the free host EJ.AM and i decided that its time to switch to paid hosting where all my worries will go away along with downtime.
It seems that at the technical overview they forgot to mention that they have quite lots of problems with the MYSQL servers:
- Powerful Clustered Servers
(Account are hosted on multiple servers for redundancy and super performance!)
-
I won’t post any screenshots of the support tickets since they are private.
1) In this issue i submitted my first support ticket on 14th july, then lots and lots of replies came form the staff like: “I have checked it running perfectly alright. May I request you to check it once again?” till they figured out that a user’s website was hosted on the same cluster as i did that caused the high load and they removed him.
2) On august 13th enough was enough and i requested that my databases should be moved on a new cluster, they created new databases on a new cluster.
3) On august 29th i got really pissed again and i submitted an other support ticket. Why? The reason i submitted the support ticket was that when i wanted to import a database(which had 200kb in size(oh my gosh what a BIG file)) phpmyadmin kept timing out.
On the same day i got the revenue sharing mod ofr vbulletin installed, the guy who installed it reported problems also, i quoted a part of his email in the support ticket.
They suggested that they will create new databases on the server with the lowest load, i replied that i doubt that will help since i just got new databases on an other cluster. Then i got a reply that i took really hard: “ That is weird because we do not have other customers complaining about the slowness.” .
What did i reply to that?
<—- don’t take the following lines as i’m bad intentioned(start) —->
if just by accident you will visit http://forums.digitalpoint.com make a search there, or just http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=terrible+servage&btnG=Search
<—- don’t take the following lines as i’m bad intentioned(end) —->
It seems that the lines above got to their hearts since they forwarded me to the main admin. In about 2 days i got reply and i got new databases created on mysql cluster #16.
Good thing that Vbulletin can backup databases on the server since i still can’t backup the databases directly to my computer because the transfer gets interrupted each time and the backup can’t be completed. I backed it up and i submitted a database import request.
My database got imported and since then till 4 days ago i didn’t have any major problems( i got 1-2 mysql timeout error messages on email (which are sent automatically by vBulletin when an error occurs or it cant connect to the dB)) but that was great, everything went realtively smooth.
4) About 4 days ago the problems started again downtime over downtime over downtime
Here’s a report from hos tracker 3 days ago:
http://webarea.ro is now back to normal.
Operation restored at 2007-10-20 06:51:40.
Url was down as a result of:
Http error:Http_client.No_reply
Downtime total 4 hour(s) 6 min(s) 60 sec(s).
Check failures total: 6.
Ofocurse i submitted a support ticket as usual to find out whats going on, i got the reply that they ahve some networking problems and problems with the clusters. A red announcemet appeared that let every user know what’s going on and progress on getting the problem fixed.
Yesterday again the downtimes and mysql errors started so i replied to the support ticket:
as i saw the red announcement dissapeared, but still for 2 days either there is downtime either the scripts can’t connect to the database
you can’t call this PROFESSIONAL HOSTING
What do you know? i got extra 2 months of hosting:
“Please note that we are provided with 2 months free hosting as small token of compensation.”
When i woke up today i saw 173 “can’t connect to database error messages in my mail inbox, i replied again that by giving me 2 months of extra hosting they wont fix the problem
I got the reply that the servers are monitored 24/7 to assure top quality hosting(i’m really excited to see if tomorrow i will get “can’t connect to database” error emails and downtime notifications from host tracker.)

Posted: Oct 30th, 2007 at 11:44 pm Reply to this comment.2I have had nothing but trouble from these people from the start. The technicians give ridiculous standard answers and appear to only have the most basic of knowledge about the systems. They have problems with anything but the most basic of setups. Even standard HTML sites are closed down or suspended because of supposed high loads on the processors, their MySQL interface with php is a joke as it is ridiculously slow to the point of being unuseable most of the time and the technical support is a series of stonewall standard answers from people who do not appear to understand the technology they are supposedly administering. Once my subscriptions are finished I’m outta there. Life’s too short.

If you go over your disk space, they DELETE your content. You get only one warning ever, so the ver y next time it happens their techs remove random directories until you are under the limit. They have no way to restrict space other than the delete button.
Likewise if you go over 400K hits per day regardless of bandwidth they also freeze your server for 24hrs.
Very bad practice. Try dreamhost, at least they have proper servers and all the right bits installed too, servage have a crippled PHP base so you’ll find many progs wont even work on their boxes.
(Lets not even go into the dubious websites they also host that you’ll be sharing space with.)

Posted: Jan 22nd, 2008 at 6:11 am Reply to this comment.5That’s so sad. That’s the worst hosting I’ve ever seen. Considering that everything on my site is based on mysql… Also I can’t believe how many complaints I’ve found all over the internet about this hosting.
Their support is a joke, a few clueless people that copy/paste you useless premade answers like “Everything is fine, thank you” or “All looks good, check your script, have a nice day”, even bots are smarter!
Their control panel is poor and ridiculous. I saw free hosting with more advanced stuff than those guys with their “super technology”. I decided to become a “customer” of servage because I don’t need to use their panels at all. I do everything via ftp/mysql so I thought well panels are poor and useless atleast their servers are fast as someone who referred them assured me. Oh My God!
Errors over errors! I had to rewrite and chop half of my script to have them working on this cheap ass hosting! After the first three tickets that I sent to support I released that’s not even a support but a joke!
After a few months I got a major issue, mysql_connect(), couldn’t connect to the selected database because their server been dying like every hour. I contacted them and a human bot called Shelly told me guess what?? “it’ all fine”. Then in the next reply she suggested to create a new database on another server and to export my existing one. I did and I couldn’t believe! Getting the same error but this time the server wasn’t even synchronized! LOL. The time was wrong. It has a big delay in minutes. All the queries that use unix timestamp were screwed up, with all the people having a negative amount of time for their activity (like Last Seen: -1550 seconds ago) etc I contact them again explaining everything with exemples and stuff (knowing that their are dumber than google bot, which is smart by the way) and this time Nick does the Big move! He sent me a link to a tutorial about GMT from php.com when I don’t use GMT at all but their server unix epoch converted into standard time date by a simple php script.
So ladies and getlemen, if you are looking for quality hosting and servage appears in your research hold Alt and hit F4 quickly, before is too late!
