Surrogates – A movie that will glue your eyes to the screen |
Living in Romania pretty much sucks because till a movie gets to theaters you can download it from the web in blu-ray. Anyway, i had the chance to watch Surrogates, which i was very very eager to watch since july and i have to tell you that it fulfilled my expectations!
The movie is basically about the huge evolution humanity goes through during a very short period(17 yrs) in the future, and everyone uses & controls surrogates(robots) looking as them. The surrogates are made by VSI(visual self) and basically anyone can look how ever they want to look, so a sexy hot chick surrogate could be controlled by a fatman sitting in his chair at home. Everyone got so addicted to using surrogates, that almost the whole USA uses it, except small groups of humans(dreds) who oppose the technology.
Bruce Willis plays agent Tom Greer, who works at the feds(FBI). He and his partner, agent Peters start investigating a murder, in which two surrogates were terminated killing the hosts also. During a chase Greer wanders in the land of the dreds and by this way his surrogate is destroyed. From this point he continues the investigation “in the flesh”. He finds out that the kid that was killed in the murder was the surrogates inventor’s(Canter) son who is out for revenge.
Canter creates and uploads a virus that will destroy all surrogates including the hosts stating that they died when they started using surrogates. Greer gets to him, but before he could stop him Canter suicides. Greer logs in to a surrogate and thanks to the supervisor from VSI manages to create a buffer that will protect the hosts. He has the chance to stop the virus, but he doesnt.
The movie ends with all surrogates crashing and humans coming out from their homes.
I skipped lots of interesting parts, so i wouldn’t fully spoil the movie

An American Werewolf in Paris – Time to get scared |
I think i saw this movie on HBO in 1998, one year after it appeared. Back then i was 10 years old, adn to tell you the truth the movie firghtened me. A few months ago i got my hands on it and after watching it i realized that it was so scary only because i watched it with child eyes, i really enjoyed it this time.
The most important aspect i liked was that the screenplay is different from other similar genre movies, it combines different styles. Enough with the intro!, time to remember what the movie is about:
A guy travels from US to France, Paris to do crazy stunts. One night the climb up to the op of the Eiffel tower and decide to bungee down. Preparing to jump Andy McDermott spots a chick a few stories below who wants to commit suicide. The chick jumps and Andy jumps after her, he saves the girl, but bumps his head. The only thing that the girl left him was one of her shoes(werewolf cinderella story).
He gets obsessed about the girl and after finding out where she lives he goes to visit her, but gets sort of trapped, because he gets invited to a “cool party”. At the party a cult of werewolves will buther almost everyone, Adam manages to escape but gets bitten. The next day he wakes up in the chick’s bed(i’ll never forget that scene, watch the movie to find out why) and demands explanations. The chick explains to him what’s really going on. After that many slaughter parties are started by the werewolves who develop a serum which can turn them into werewolves at any time of the day(they dont need full moon anymore).
The only way to get ridd of the curse is to eat the heart of the one who bit you. Adam and Serafine go “in battle” with the rest of the werewolves, and they will triumf with Adam eating the werewolf leader’s heart and the curse is lifted from both of them.
In the end of the movie they get married, and the movie ends with them bungeeing down from the top of the Eiffel tower.
This movie may be old, but its damn captivating and if you like these types of movies you WONT be disapointed. Go on, try to get your hands on the widescreen dvd!

Outlander – sci fi meets Beowulf |
Outlander is an amazing story of a space warrior who’s ship crashes on Earth in the era of the vikings. Only after the crash he realizes that he brought with him the last of the morwins, a deadly creature from a planet which Kainan’s race ocupied.
The morwin looks like a dragon, but glows red when hunting. It starts irradicating the villagers, Kainan while hunting him is captured and held responsable for the murders, till everyone realizes that there really is a huge dragon in the forrest.
Kainan makes a plan to capture the morwin, by digging a huge trap and filling with oil. The morwin falls into the trap and is set on fire, but he manages to escape. While they are busy with the huge morwin, a small morwin climbs out from the well and kidnaps the beautiful princess Freya. Kainan and Wulfric take a piece from Kainan’s ship and forge a powerful spear and sword out of it which can pierce the morwin’s skin. With the help of both of them Freya decapitates the small morwin. On their way to escape they hit a dead end and they have to fight. Wulfric is killed by the morwin and Kainan kills the last of the morwins.
He says good bye to Freya saying that he is going home, but when he gets to the beacon he destroys it and returns to the vikings. Due to the death of king Rothgar,Freya enherits the throne, and with the return of Kainan they will most probably get married and rule together.

Heroes and Prison Break will never end |
Really. Heroes and Prison Break are becoming a new version of Lost, their creators keep on lenghtening them without realizing that they are becoming like chewing gums.
At Heroes after the death of his father Nathan instantly became evil and wants to continue his father’s work and to kill Peter. He also reveals to the president the “secrets” about his friends, excluding himself of course. Instead of ending the movie Tim Kring had to make him evil in order to continue production, and by this way a new chapter begins: “Fugitives”.
In Prison Break everything started with Scofield wanting to save his brother. He saved his brother, they got into trouble and had to steal scylla. Now he got his brain surgery and only hours after the surgery he can walk and think clearly. The thing that b0thers him now is that Scylla is a good thing and it might help human kind evolve to alternative energy, the 100% conversion of the sun’s power to energy( B Ar Ga In). Now really who the f*ck cares so much about the rest of the world? This movie should have ended a long time ago after breaking his brother out of prison. Yet the creator of the movie decided to continue the story which is getting really boring as we speak.
I have a feeling that i will stop watching both series, just like i did with Lost when it became so boring that it was enough for me to watch the beginning and the end of an episode.

Superhero movie |
As the title suggests this movie is related to the scary, date, epic movies, meaning that it’s a parody. As so we have a lot of superheroes spoofed,a lot of scenes taken and spoofed from movies like Batman, Spiderman,
Fantastic 4 etc oh and a happy ending. It has some cliches a few old jokes but overall you can have a good laugh. The main plot revolves around the Spiderman plot so it should be well known . Here we have Rick Rider(Drake Bell) who’s a not so cool boy being late for the bus, wearing dorky glasses(Spiderman) being in love with a hot chick Jill Johnson (Sara Paxton) who happens to be he’s next door neighbor.
The class goes on a science trip to a pharmaceutical company where they check out bio-engineered animals where Rick happens to get bitten by a radioactive dragonfly. Developing superhuman attributes he goes on fighting crime getting into trouble and finally battling the evildoer in the movie Lou Landers aka Hourglass(Christopher McDonald). As always good wins over evil and there you have it happy ending as mentioned before.

Fred Claus – a bit too Sci-Fi but overall a great Christmas movie |
Disregarding the fact that it’s pretty annoying to see Vince Vaughn in a Christmas movie every year(this year: Four Christmases) this was a pretty good movie. The thing that i liked the most was most probably Nick Clause who can never get mad and he is always there to help.
Fred always hated Nick because he got all the attention from their parents, and for several hundred years he never visits, nor talks to Nick and their parents. One day he gets thrown into jail for being a fake-santa. At first he calls his girlfriend, but she doesn’t pick up the phone, so his only hope is Nick.
Fred calls Nick who agrees to help him, and at this time Fred becomes greedy and asks for 50 grand more in order to have money to buy a building. Nick agrees to help him out with an other 50 grand IF Fred agrees to work for the money.
Santa sends an elf to pick up Fred who arrives with a lightning-fast slain to north-pole. Along with his arrival an inspector arrives who wants to shut down and outsource Santa’s operation.
Fred gets into several conflicts with Nick, and when he is framed by the inspector the plugg is pulled. Santa and Fred get into a fight and they are literately fighting on the streets of North-Pole. After this Fred demands, gets his money and goes home, where he realizes that what he did was wrong and dpends all the 50 grand to get back to north pole, where he sees his brother in bed, without the possibility to move, because he overate himself.
Fred will become santa(because he is a Claus) and will deliver all the gifts in time preventing Santa’s operation from being shut down.
The movie ends with Fred visiting his girlfriend and taking her on a trip to Paris(with the slain of course).
Spoilers:
There were quite many spoilers, and here are the two most signifficant ones:
- when Fred and Nick are fighting you can notice the picture behind them and that the scene was shot in the studio.
- the snow is 110% fake! when they are throwing showballs at each other you can notice that they are picking up ready made snow-balls from the fake-snow.
The movie could have been a lot better if they would have made it more real, and because of this it only gets 2.5/5from me

Transporter 3 is very close |
Millions of fans around the world are getting more and more excited abot the launch of the new movie from the Transporter series! The bad news is that only people living in US and France will be able to enjoy the movie in theatres tomorrow. The movie will be launched in Romania on 23rd January 2009(and authorities still wonder why piracy is huge).
The trailer is dazzling!
I think this will be the best from its series. The first movie was great, the second one sucked because it was almost like a science-fiction movie, and this one will rock your socks! As you can see in the trailer, the role of the main villain is played by Robert Knepper(T-Bag from prison break) and damn, he fits the role perfectly!
For US and France residents i wish pleasant viewing and to the rest of the world i can only say one thing:determine your excitement level and act upon it

Max Payne – The Movie |
If you played the game you will love the movie.
Max Payne – The movie based on the game with the same name created by Sam Lake presents the life of a detective – Max Payne(Mark Wahlberg) who’s wife and son were killed by 3 robbers and if he would have gotten home 10 minutes earlier he could have saved them. He killed 2 of the robbers but never got the 3rd one, and thats why he transferred himself to the unable to solve cases section.
Since the murder of his wife he’s been pursuing leads that lead to dead ends. Till one day when he went to one of his informers where he met a russian chick who wanted to sleep with him. Max throws out the chick and the next day his former partner asks Max about her.
It turns out that the chick got slaughtered and Max’s wallet was found there. Max denies all charges, Alex discovers a resemblance(tattoo) between the russian chick and Max’s deceased wife. He tries to speak to Max but he gets murdered.
Max teams up with Mona Sax(the russian chick’s sister) and they find out that the wings tattoo is for protection. Later Max will find out that his old friend P.B killed his wife and it was all because of a drug their pharmaceutical company developed which created super soldiers.
The drug worked only on 1% of the test candidates, the rest had terrifying hallucinations and died. P.B puts 2 vials of the drug into Max’s pocket and wants to kill him creating a suicide scene. Max escapes and jumps into the freezing water from where he manages to get out to shore.
He can barely move so he drinks the vials and starts seeing demonic angels. He gets back up on his feet and goes back to the company where he kills more than a dozen soldiers, gets shot with a shotgun, an uzzi and still manages to Kill P.B and survive. Along with his survival his hallucinations dissappear.
Slayer’s Thoughts
The movie was great and captivating. At first i thought that they used fake snow, but later i read that the movie was shot in march near Torronto(CA). Also when the death angels first appeared and in a scene they pulled out a guy from the window i thought that they really existed. Only when they talked about the drug i figured out that it was just a hallucination.
I really liked that in the movie actors from Prison Break(Amaury Nolasco) and Heroes(Brea Grant) starred. It was in the same time weird and cool.
I gave the movie a 4.5/5 rating because the survival of Max is exagerated: he’s got no vest and he still survives a bullet in the arm, shotgun shells in his shoulder and 2 uzzi bullets in his chest.

Babylon A.D – Hell of a movie!, with a stupid ending |
The movie is played in the future when the whole world is messed up. Toorop(Vin Diesel)an ex-mercenary accepts Gorsky’s offer to take Aurora from Syberia to New York. In exchange he will get money and the chance to pass the American border using a Fake ID which is injected in his neck.
Toorop has to protect the girl by any means, and not her alone, because along with Aurora comes nun Rebeka who took care of Aurora like her own daughter.
In a private talk Rekeba tells Toorop what happened: a doctor visited Aurora, gave her some pills and since then she’s been acting weird like a schizophrenic sometimes. She also tells him that Aurora is a wonder child, who could talk 19 languages by the age of 2 and she knew things that she could never possibly learn.
At a train station in russia Aurora saves Toorop from a huge explosion, it was like she knew that the train will blow up, neither Toorop, or Rebeka can explain what’s happening with Aurora. Toorop fights all the hard conditions and finally gets Aurora to America where he has to sunder her to the Noelite group.
Instead of turning her over he decides to fight them all. A missile is launched which has a tracking device assigned to Toorop’s passport(embedded in his neck). Toorop man=ages to dodge the missle, but one more missle is launched, and the only way to dodge it would be for him to die so Aurora shoots him saying “I need you to live”.
A few hours later Toorop is revived by Dr. Arthur Darquandier, Aurora’s father who turns Toorop into a half cyborg replacing his arm end leg with robot parts. Toorop goes and finds Aurora at his old house from where he takes her to the hospital where she gives birth to twins(one caucasian and one black) and suddenly we are located in the future where Toorop is raising the kids.
Call that a stupid ending! o.O They should have put in a scene where they show what happens to Aurora and what does Toorop do and what does the Noelite group do. This was like reading the first 200 pages of a book and jumping from page 200 to page 250 skipping the pages between.
This movie is a great action movie and is worth the ticket price! Lots and lots of special effects were used and the screenplay is great!, but because they skipped a few scenes it gets only 3.5 stars from me.

Pulse 2 – Afterlife = fail |
When i thought i’ve seen the worst movie in my life i stumbled upon Pulse 2.
I didn’t watch more than 20 minutes from the movie so I can’t really give you a full description of what happens in the movie. One thing is for sure: the first scene totally captivated my attention after which everything went crappy.
After watching for 20 minutes and laughing a lot of the bad filming and screenplay and seeing that lots of scenes were shot in front of a green board(you know that thingy that can be cut out and they can place the actors in any place they want to) i asked myself: what the f**k? after which i moved on to an other movie.
This movie is so bad that a LOW-budget movie is heaven compared to this one. The acting is extremely bad, the scenes suck, the screenplay sucks, i think these arguments are enough to convince you NOT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY on a theatre ticket!
Pulse 2 – Afterlife is a great example on how much some sequels suck compared to the first movie. I really enjoyed Pulse(the first movie), the general storyline was pretty stupid: digital aliens attack earth because of a failed transmission, but overall it was a good movie with good filming and actors. This one is exactly the opposite: bad movie with horrible actors.
