Tutorial: Manually install ZenCart

Installation

Step 1: Go to the zen-cart download center and get the latest release.

Step 2: Upload the files from the archive on your web server using a FTP client (e.g. SmartFTP)

Step 3: Create a fresh new database.

Step 4: Locate the includes/dist-configure.php file, rename it to configure.php and make it writable. Also locate the admin/includes/dist-configure.php file, rename it to configure.php and make it writable.

Step 5: Make sure that the following folders are writable:

/catalog/cache
/catalog/images
/catalog/includes/languages/english/html_includes
/catalog/media
/catalog/pub
/catalog/admin/backups
/catalog/admin/images/graphs

Also enter the images/ folder and make sure that ALL the directories and subdirectories are writable.

Step 6: Go to yoursite.com/zc_install/index.php and click continue to begin the installation.

Step 7: Read the license and if you agree with it check “I have read and agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions as stated above” and click Continue.

Step 8: A System Inspection will appear. If everything is Ok click Install.

Step 9: Enter your database information. Leave the Database – OPTIONAL Settings as they are. Click save database settings.

Step 10: Enter the path to zen-cart and the url to zen-cart. Click save settings.

Step 11: Choose if you have to use phpbb forum.If you want to use it, choose the directory where phpbb is installed. If not, ignore this page and click save phpbb settings.

Step 12: Enter your site’s name, your name, email, store name, address, Country, phone, language and your default currency. Click save store settings.

Step 13: Create a admin user. Enter your desired username, email, password, confirm it and click save admin settings.

Congratulations. You’ve succesfully installed zen-cart on your web server. Don’t forget to make the configure.php file from the admin/includes folder and /includes folder read-only. Now you can visit your site : yoursite.com or you can go to your admin panel yoursite.com/admin/index.php

    A useful tutorial, but the title is misleading. This is not about how to do a manual install, but how to use the provided automated install script.

    if we call the one click installation from fantastico automatic than we can call this manual install :)
